About Michael Hamlett-Wood

I've been painting all my life, working mainly in oils and watercolours. I tend towards figurative and literal painting but there is the occasional abstract picture. I've noticed that these often induce total bafflement among my studio visitors, who mainly prefer something'they can understand'.
I've a wide spread of work, landscape, portraits, figures, seascapes, boats,
imaginative work -ie things done purely from my imagination, and I've worked in oils, acrylics, watercolours, pen and ink etc.
I also do some sculpture, usually in wood, sometimes carved, sometimes in assemblage form, also in card, fibreglass and polyclay. I'm still trying to master
all of these.
I no longer exhibit and rarely use galleries, so my work is usually only available from my studio.
There is no deeply thought out philosophy of painting, I just paint whatever takes my fancy, hence the wide range of subjects.
